If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten... • The Tower of David citadel, The old city of Jerusalem, Israel
October 22, 2009 • By Joe

We've been to many places in the last four weeks. We traveled as far as Europe, to London and Italy. We saw the history of few cities there. We traveled to northern Israel. But no place has left such a huge impact on us as Jerusalem. We were overwhelmed, we were impressed, we were amazed… I even cried at one of the visual shows we watched. One thing is very clear to whomever comes into Jerusalem… there's no city like it in the whole world.

Do you see the image on the wall to the right? Is it only my imagination???

The Tower of David is an ancient citadel located near the Jaffa Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem. Built to strengthen a strategically weak point in the Old City's defenses, the citadel was constructed during the second century BCE and subsequently destroyed and rebuilt by, in succession, the Christian, Muslim, Mamluk, and Ottoman conquerors of Jerusalem. It contains important archeological finds dating back 2,700 years. The name "Tower of David" is a misnomer, as it was constructed at least several hundred years after the Biblical date of King David's reign.
